Sandro Gebert

Swiss-American Artist

I am a painter and sculptor whose work is driven by curiosity, how it begins, how it lingers, and how it shapes the way we see and move through the world.

My work combines bold, graphic forms with layered textures and symbolic imagery. I am drawn to playful surrealism, using exaggerated, whimsical shapes to create characters that feel both familiar and slightly strange. These figures function as archetypes rather than illustrations, inviting viewers to bring their own narratives and interpretations into the work.

Working primarily in acrylic on wood panel for my paintings, I build surfaces and forms through layering, revision, and visible process. Vintage text, worn marks, and weathered textures often appear, referencing old book pages, city walls, and signs of age. This contrast between decay and clean graphic form connects the past with the present, while a predominantly black and white palette, punctuated by selective bursts of color, keeps the work focused and alive. My sculptures are powder-coated steel and capture the same bold, graphic sensibility as my paintings, brought into three-dimensional form.

Influenced by street art, printmaking, and storytelling, my work embraces raw, unpolished elements alongside deliberate structure. Scratches, drips, and imperfections are not removed. They become part of the narrative. I am interested in moments of pause, where meaning is not fixed, but unfolding.

Rather than offering answers, my work creates space for reflection and discovery. Each piece is an invitation into dialogue, where curiosity becomes a way of navigating emotion, symbolism, and possibility.
